SHELBY COUNTY, OH — Two men were seriously injured early Friday morning when an SUV left the road, plowed through a yard, and crashed into a house just outside of Piqua in Shelby County.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), troopers from the Piqua Post and emergency medical personnel responded around 12:10 a.m. to the 14000 block of East Miami Shelby Road following reports of a vehicle striking a residence.
Investigators said a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 41-year-old Joshua Danner, was traveling south on County Road 25A when it failed to negotiate a curve near East Miami Shelby Road. The vehicle veered off the road, tore through a yard, and slammed into the home.
Danner and his passenger, 45-year-old John Karnehm, both sustained serious injuries in the crash. They were transported by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment.
Fortunately, the occupants of the home were not injured. However, the collision caused significant structural damage, temporarily displacing the residents.
OSHP troopers suspect that alcohol impairment, excessive speed, and improper seat belt use were contributing factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
