PIQUA — City crews were hard at work Thursday cleaning up debris along the Great Miami River, helping to keep the waterway flowing smoothly and safely through downtown Piqua.

The Underground Utilities and Public Works teams used a track hoe to remove large logs, branches, and other debris caught around the bridge pillars next to Lock 9 Park. By the end of the day, they had filled and hauled away five truckloads.

This annual cleanup is part of the City’s ongoing support of the Miami Conservancy District, which oversees the region’s flood protection system. Together, they help ensure the river remains healthy and well-managed for the entire community.

Crews also tackled stormwater outfalls in the Shawnee neighborhood, clearing them to help the storm system operate more efficiently—especially during heavy rains.

It’s all part of Piqua’s continued commitment to protecting local waterways and keeping our city safe and resilient.
