PIQUA — Piqua City Schools recognized outstanding staff and community partners during its annual district awards, announced as part of Staff Appreciation Week in early May.

Springcreek Elementary’s Sarah Haight was named the 2025 District Teacher of the Year. A veteran educator with 20 years of kindergarten teaching experience—11 of those in Piqua—Haight was commended for her dedication, teamwork, and commitment to student growth. She will serve as the keynote speaker at the district’s Opening Day event this fall.

Support Staff Member of the Year was awarded to Heather York, an administrative assistant who has worked at both Piqua Central Intermediate and the district office over the past decade. York was praised for her reliability, positive attitude, and strong support of staff and families.

Wyatt Heinz, director of Piqua Bands, was named Coach/Advisor of the Year. Now in his sixth year with the district, Heinz leads multiple ensembles and also coaches tennis. He is also the recipient of the 2025 OMEA Young Educator of the Year award.

The Friend of the Schools Award went to the Piqua Education Foundation in recognition of its 40 years of service. The foundation has awarded nearly $6 million in scholarships and over $350,000 in educator grants since its founding in 1985.

Courtney Downs was honored as the Substitute Teacher of the Year, recognized for her dependability and consistent support of students and staff throughout the district.

All award recipients will be formally celebrated at the district’s End of Year Celebration and added to the Wall of Fame at the Piqua Board of Education Office.
