PIQUA – The City of Piqua Utility Business Office is letting customers know that the recent stretch of extreme summer heat and humidity led to a significant jump in energy use last month.
With air conditioners running nearly non-stop, Piqua residents collectively used more than 30 million kilowatt-hours of electricity in July — the city’s highest monthly total since 2019. A chart provided by the city shows how both electricity consumption and average monthly temperatures compared to previous years.
To help manage costs, the City of Piqua encourages residents to take advantage of the SmartHub app, which allows customers to:
- Monitor energy use in real time
- Receive alerts when usage goes above a chosen limit
- Pay bills and manage their account online
Officials hope that by tracking usage, residents can make small adjustments that could lead to noticeable savings on future bills.
