PIQUA, OH — The City of Piqua is encouraging community involvement by hosting two upcoming public meetings in April focused on separate dam-related projects. City officials emphasize that these projects are independent of one another and do not overlap in scope or impact.

Meeting 1: Low Dam Removal and Great Miami River Restoration

The first public meeting will take place on Thursday, April 17, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the City Commission Chambers at the Municipal Government Complex, 201 W. Water Street.

Project consultants from FlatLand Resources and Ecosystem Services will present a detailed update on the Low Dam Removal and Great Miami River Restoration Project, including a preview of the 60% design plans. The presentation will highlight proposed in-stream enhancements and river corridor improvements, along with an overview of the anticipated construction timeline.

Following the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback.

Meeting 2: Hydraulic Canal and Dam Safety Project Updates

The second meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Fort Piqua Plaza Banquet Center, located on the fourth floor of 308 N. Main Street.

During this session, representatives from the City of Piqua and Stantec Consulting Services will provide updates on the Hydraulic Canal and Dam Safety Project, including evaluations conducted over the past year on the Swift Run Lake, Echo Lake, and Franz Pond dams, as well as the connecting hydraulic canal system.

This public engagement opportunity is part of the City’s efforts to incorporate resident input into the long-term vision for the area’s water infrastructure, while addressing regulatory requirements set forth by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Dam Safety Program.
