MIAMI COUNTY – The Miami County Sheriff’s Office is alerting local residents to a scam text message making the rounds in the area. The message claims to be from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV), warning of an unpaid traffic citation and threatening license suspension, legal action, and additional fees if not paid immediately.
The scam text uses the BMV logo and references a fake Ohio law to appear legitimate, then directs recipients to a fraudulent payment link.
Authorities stress that this is a scam, and remind the public that government agencies do not request payment or personal information via text, email, or phone.
Anyone who receives this message should delete it immediately and avoid clicking any links. Residents are encouraged to share this warning with others to help stop the spread of the scam.
