ROGER J. HERBST

Roger J. Herbst, 78, of Piqua, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 20, 2025 in his home. He was born December 2, 1946 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Herbert and Evelyn (Chevalier) Herbst. Roger was happily divorced but remained close to Darla (Lumpkin) Herbst who helped care for him to the very end.

Survivors include three children, Brian Herbst of Piqua, Shelby Herbst of Piqua, Bob (Summer) Herbst of Fairfield Township; and five grandchildren who where his heart and soul, Jessica, Allison, Carter, Rylan, and Andrew. He was preceded in death by a brother, Steven Herbst.

Roger; who went by Dad, Rodgie, Grandpa, and Favorite Pappy; earned his bachelors degree from Marquette University before taking a position with Medalist Allen-A where he worked for many years. Roger was extremely bright; he built his own computers bit by bit. He was extremely sarcastic in all the best ways. He had a twisted, yet incredible sense of humor that he shared with his family. He had a pool at his home and while most people would find enjoyment out of their pool, Roger did not. It was always a point of frustration for him. Some things he did enjoy were muscle cars, fishing, Coca-Cola, bread of all sorts, cooking, his Levi Jeans, fast food, and enjoying some of his favorite TV shows and movies. He loved old Western films and kept the volume at 90… so he could feel like he was a part of the movies. He also loved cop shows, and the Fast & the Furious franchise. Some things that he LOVED were keeping meticulous care of his lawn and landscaping, his iPad, gambling, playing cards especially Rummy and most importantly, his grandchildren. He absolutely adored his grandchildren and looked forward to his “2 iPad nights” with his grandson where they would watch shows, play games and eat snacks.

Roger was a private person who, outside of his family, kept to himself. To honor his privacy and how he lived his life, a private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are being provided to the family through the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Guestbook condolences and expressions of sympathy, to be provided to the family, may be expressed through jamiesonandyannucci.com
