PIQUA – The Piqua Fire Department announces that it has added a new ambulance to its fleet. Medic 21, a 2025 Freightliner, went into service on July 3, replacing the previous vehicle by the same name.

“The replacement of Medic 21 with this new vehicle is in line with our ongoing, long-term plan to keep our fleet in optimal condition,” Fire Chief Lee Adams said. “Our focus remains on providing exceptional, reliable and efficient service to our patients. Maintaining and replacing ambulances ensures we can continue to do just that.”

The new vehicle is similarly outfitted to the other ambulances on the fleet, with an upgraded heating and air conditioning system for the patient care area as well as a designated exterior storage area for the crew’s gear in case of a needed response to a fire call while traveling in the ambulance.

The new ambulance will be first in the running order on paramedic calls. The department’s Medic 24, which is four years old and has more than 120,000 miles, will move down in the department’s four-vehicle running order. The previous Medic 21 will be sold.

With the inclusion of Medic 21 in the fleet, all Piqua ambulances now have power loading for cots — also known as stretchers — to reduce strain on paramedics.
