MIAMI COUNTY – Miami County drivers should expect to see more deputies on the roads starting July 3rd, as the Sheriff’s Office launches an increased traffic enforcement campaign over the Independence Day weekend.
The enforcement effort, which runs through Sunday, will focus on identifying and removing impaired drivers, as well as cracking down on other violations that frequently lead to crashes. Sheriff Dave Duchak noted that the Fourth of July is historically one of the deadliest holidays on U.S. roadways, with impaired driving being a major contributing factor.
Deputies will concentrate their patrols on roadways in Miami County known for higher rates of crashes and OVI (Operating a Vehicle Impaired) arrests.
This initiative is funded by a grant from the Ohio Traffic Safety Office, awarded to the Sheriff’s Office in late 2024. The grant also helps offset fuel costs associated with the increased patrols.
“I and my staff wish all county residents a safe and happy Independence Day,” said Sheriff Duchak in a statement released July 1.
Residents are urged to celebrate responsibly, drive sober, and stay safe throughout the holiday weekend.
