PIQUA — Get ready, Piqua — a serious heatwave is on the way. Starting this Sunday and lasting through Tuesday evening, the Miami Valley will be dealing with some of the hottest temperatures we’ve seen so far this year.
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for much of the region, including Piqua, from noon Sunday until 8 p.m. Tuesday. It’s going to feel very hot and sticky, with high humidity making it even harder for your body to cool down.
What This Means for You:
Expect hot, muggy days where it’ll feel well into the 90s — if not higher. These kinds of conditions can be dangerous, especially for kids, older adults, and anyone working outside.
How to Stay Safe:
- Hydrate: Drink water — lots of it.
- Cool off: Stay indoors with AC if you can.
- Slow down: Avoid outdoor work or exercise in the afternoon heat.
- Dress smart: Light, loose-fitting clothes are your best bet.
- Check in: Make sure friends, family, and neighbors are doing okay — especially the elderly.
If you notice signs of heat exhaustion like dizziness, nausea, or confusion, take it seriously and get to a cool place right away.
We’re used to warm summers here in Piqua, but this stretch is shaping up to be extra intense. Stay cool, stay safe, and look out for each other.
