Don S. Phillips, 74, of Piqua, died Friday, April 18, 2025 in his home. He was born on March 29, 1951 in Piqua to the late John and Karmyn (Reinke) Phillips. He led a full and complete life surrounded by family and friends. Survivors include two brothers, Scott (Suzy) Phillips of Piqua, and John (Colleen) Phillips of Sherburne, New York and nephews David and Christopher Phillips of New York and their families.

Mr. Phillips served the Piqua, Sidney and Troy area for many years as a mental health-counselor; he was highly respected by a wide range of clients. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from The Ohio State University. He also had his Master’s degree in counseling from Wright State University.

Don had a keen intellect and actively followed a wide range of issues. He was widely read and appreciated most forms of music and art. He was so easy to meet and to know. Yes, conversations with Don were always interesting. He could be lightly humorous; a trait that he would have said he inherited from his Hoosier Phillips grandfather.

Don maintained close relationships with his school classmates throughout his lifetime. They were an amazing group from the beginning. The Phillips family had their traditions that included a love for Christmas and the Fourth of July. They always had a big Christmas tree fresh from the forest, and fun Fountain Park Fourths. Don Phillips embraced it all! The annual Michigan vacations were always special to Father and his three sons. Once while fishing from a boat, Don reached over to grab a water lily but came up sputtering and claiming that he was pushed in.

Don’s home was his castle that he fully enjoyed as well as the nearby park. Mr. Phillips liked Piqua and Piqua liked him back!

A gathering of family and friends to honor his life will be held from 4:00-5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2025 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with brief remarks by his family and close friends beginning at 5:30 p.m. A celebration of Don’s life will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2025 at the Schmidlapp Free School Library.
