The City of Piqua has been recognized with a 2024 Quality Paving Award from Flexible Pavements of Ohio (FPO) for its exceptional work on the Looney Road Resurfacing Project. The award was presented on March 18 during the 2025 Ohio Asphalt Expo in Columbus.

The resurfacing project, which covered 4.65 lane miles, was funded through a grant awarded in 2022, designed in 2023, and completed in 2024. The Quality Paving Award honors projects that meet the highest standards in asphalt paving, including a smooth, uniform surface, precise joint construction, outstanding ride quality, and minimal roadway noise.

“This recognition reflects the City’s commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure that enhances our community and supports the well-being of our residents,” said City Manager Paul Oberdorfer. “We are proud of our engineering team and the strong partnerships that contributed to the project’s success.”

Nominated by Walls Brothers Asphalt Company, the Looney Road Resurfacing Project is one of only 33 local road projects—and among 91 total across Ohio—to receive this distinction. The project was led by the Engineering Division of the Community Services Department and involved collaboration from multiple City departments.

“This award is a testament to the hard work and high standards upheld by our team and our partners at Walls Brothers Asphalt,” said Kenton Kiser, Engineering Manager for the City of Piqua. “We are honored to receive this recognition and remain committed to excellence in future infrastructure projects.”
