PIQUA — The City of Piqua has announced that Rumpke Waste & Recycling will assume responsibility for refuse, recycling, and yard waste collection services beginning March 31.
According to a city news release, Rumpke’s services will maintain the existing collection structure, including the same carts, offerings, and pickup schedule currently in place.
Residents can expect to receive a mailer from Rumpke outlining details of the sanitation program. Additionally, the city has shared this information on its website, where residents can also access frequently asked questions, five-year rate details, and other related resources.
During the transition period, Piqua’s sanitation division will continue its regular collection operations while assisting in training new Rumpke drivers. All full-time sanitation employees have been retained and have accepted offers to transition into full-time positions within the city.
This change follows the City Commission’s approval for the city manager to enter into a contract with Rumpke during its February 4 meeting, as well as amendments to Chapter 50 of the Piqua Code, which were passed on March 18. The new agreement guarantees rates for five years, with an optional five-year extension, offering multi-year cost savings for both residential and commercial customers.
